Madurai is known for its captivating architecture, ancient history and culture, and mesmerizing temples. Each temple is a piece of art here, beautiful and architectural marvel in itself.

Why Visit Madurai?

Madhurai has an interesting ancient Sangam connection with the Romans and Greeks.
It also has a contrasting planning strategy between our Vedic times and Modern Era.
The temples show strong and logical planning while, in reality, you wonder what happened to all the town planning strategies.

6 Must Things to Do in Madurai

There are countless ancient and historical places to visit, but you must visit these places.

1) Visit the Famous Meenakshi Temple

You cannot miss this for sure. Meenakshi temple is the city’s most iconic attraction and should be the first place to visit in Madurai. It is popularly known as Meenakshi Amman or Meenakshi-Sundareshwara Temple.
The temple showcases Dravidian architecture. The temple in the centre stands out.  It has 500 pillars, 14 towers with fascinating shrines, a golden lotus, mandapas, and a sacred pool spread across 15 acres.
You can easily spend 3-4 hours admiring the architecture.

2) Koodal Azhagar Temple

Visit the architecturally beautiful temple Koodal Azhagar Temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is the epitome of serenity and beauty.
It has an amazing 5-tiered raja gopuram which is 120 feet tall. The unique terrace will allow you to reach gopuram.
Koodal Azhagar is close to Meenakshi temple and should be next on your Madurai tourist place-to-visit list.
