AIHOLE

This temple city with more than 120 temples came into existence around 5th century CE. It was the capital of Chalukyas. Out of 120 temples of Aihole some have been destroyed by time. But those which still stand proudly are a worth visit. The most famous temple is Durga Temple Complex. It is Dravidian style tmeple which is not of goddess durga but because of its infrastrucure which is a part of a fortification therefore the durga name is given to you. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Divas Sojourn Hampi trip includes a visit to Aihole too.
