A Real Story from the Heart of Divas Sojourn’s Women-Only Travel Journey
Group travel looks glamorous from the outside—
the photos, the perfect itineraries, the laughter echoing across foreign cities.
But sometimes, behind the pretty pictures lies a story that tests patience, compassion, and leadership.
Our recent Divas Sojourn women-only trip to South Korea reminded me exactly why trip leaders are not just guides… they are protectors of the entire travel vibe.
And here’s the story most people don’t know.

The Trip That Started Like a Dream
Seoul greeted us with its autumn charm—burnt orange leaves, crisp air, lively streets, and enthusiastic women ready to make memories.
For most of the group, it was excitement from the first moment.
But two ladies—both first-time group travellers—carried a different kind of energy.
At first, it was small things.
A complaint here.
A raised tone there.
Resistance to the schedule.
Side comments that made others slightly uncomfortable.
But soon…
Their personal discomfort snowballed into loud ruckuses, unnecessary arguments, and constant negativity that threatened the psychological comfort of everyone around them.
As the trip leader, I could feel the ripple effect.
A group’s mood is delicate—one negative voice is enough, two is dangerous.
And I knew I had to step in before that negativity poisoned the entire travel experience.
The Behind-the-Scenes You Never See
While the group enjoyed the beauty of Bukchon Village and the night markets of Myeongdong, I was fighting silently.
I watched the two ladies stir issues out of thin air—
questioning timings, picking fights with each other, complaining loudly in public spaces, and creating an atmosphere heavy enough to unsettle even seasoned travellers.
I’ve led trips for 12 years. I’ve handled lost passports, medical emergencies, delayed flights…
But this?
This was a different kind of challenge—the challenge of human behaviour.
And I reminded myself:
My job is not only to lead a trip. My job is to protect the experience of my female travel community.
The Conversation That Changed Everything
Instead of reacting to their drama publicly, I chose a strategy.
I invited both ladies for a private conversation.
No judgments.
No raised voice.
Just honesty.
I told them:
- Group travel only works when everyone respects the environment.
- Their negativity was making others uneasy.
- Their behaviour—maybe unknowingly—was disturbing the entire group dynamic.
At first, they were in denial.
Then defensive.
Then emotional.
But as I listened patiently and explained with empathy, something shifted.
Their walls came down.
They realised they were projecting their anxiety onto others.
And slowly… they began to understand that group travel requires flexibility, patience, and a willingness to adapt.
This one conversation changed the trajectory of the entire trip.
The Dramatic Shift — From Complaints to Connection
By Day 4, something unexpected happened.
The same two ladies who were creating chaos began participating more.
They were smiling, taking photos, bonding with the group, and even thanking me for speaking to them privately.
One of them said a line I’ll never forget:
“I didn’t realise we were becoming the problem. Thank you for guiding us without embarrassing us.”
And that’s when I realised—
Leadership is not about control.
It’s about emotional intelligence.
What This Experience Taught Me
Women-only travel is powerful.
It brings together strangers with different backgrounds, personalities, and expectations.
But harmony doesn’t happen automatically—
It is cultivated, protected, and nurtured by the trip leader.
This South Korea trip taught me again that:
- Not everyone knows how group travel works.
- First-timers can get overwhelmed.
- And sometimes, negativity tries to steal the spotlight.
But with the right approach, positivity can win every single time.
The Divas Sojourn Promise
At Divas Sojourn, we don’t just organise trips—
We create emotionally safe travel spaces for women.
Even when challenges arise behind the scenes, our travellers enjoy a smooth, joyful, empowering journey.
Because for us, it’s not just travel.
It’s a community.
A bond.
A shared energy that we guard fiercely.
And no amount of drama can shake that.
